The Myth of Older and Wiser

I had to press this, as I just had this same conversation with my sister last week.   My question to her was, why do we learn everything we learn when it’s too late?

It seems like that doesn’t it?
Great post!

The Myth of Older and Wiser.

Wandering costs money – they say it doesn’t, but it does!

When I get bored, I wander.      And well this year, the next thing I knew, we bought a triplex.
November is a tough month for me – most years I hit the ditch and fall into a depression, but this year we bought a triplex instead.    I’m happy, but broke.
In all seriousness, we are very excited.    Now comes working with my hubs on the  biggest project of our lives.    There is some structural work, bathrooms to redo, a new roof to put on, a front porch to abolish and re-build.    We’ll hire contractors for that one.

Here is a picture of it from the real estate listing:

See those front porches – they gotta go.   But the good news is, I get to create something new.
Geeesh, I hope I’m as happy about this in December, when November is over, and we actually have to hand the money over.

Anyone else out there landlords?   any advice?

The War on Christmas « My Not So Humble Opinion

Love this Blogger’s opinion on Christmas.  My favorite quote:

“It’s just that my ability to enjoy the Christmas season is inversely proportional to my level of exposure to it.”

Ain’t that the truth!

Friends Against Drunk Drinking (among other things)

I spent a couple of hours last night with a great friend, who seems to be on the exact same journey as I am.     So I have to wonder (or wander ’cause I wander in my head) – did we meet for a reason?    Did the big “U” (that would be Universe who is my “God”), drop us in each others paths for a reason?
See, we both struggle with two things – and they are related.    One is alcohol consumption (for the Love of God we love our wine!), and two, our weight.     We are convinced that our love for the Nectar is sabotaging our weight loss journey.     So, we both decided (well she more than I :p) that we will give up our close friend FADD (our name for, let’s just say………..alot of wine) for a more sane life and skinny jeans.  Ok, I’ll spill – it actually means “Friends Against Drunk Drinking”.   You know the times when you’ve had enough, but you keep on thinking wine is your best friend – at the time!   Always seems like a great idea.   AT. THE. TIME.

My point is this – sometimes your closest friends become more than that.   They become your partners, almost life partners.   No, we are not hot for each other, we are both married (to men).   But truly have become life partners.   We have come together to partner on this thing called life and the common challenges that the big U has thrown to us.

Have you ever thought of your friends that way?    Some friends are partners.    Some friends are friends.   Some are B list friends, and well, you know the rest.

Anyway, I leave you to ponder all of this.   But I do have a couple of questions for the e-world:   do you encounter times when you need your FADD friends because you and nectar have become too friendly?   And what do you do about it?   And two, have you ever thought of your friends this way.

Today we are this:

We’ll never be this:

Some day we will be this – but there will likely be ruffles on the bottom of those suits:

Makes me warm in side knowing I have a partner.     “L” this is for you – xo.

It’s a good day.

Every wonder what if……..?

My hubs and I were sitting outside after work today (it was 32 degrees C) having drinks (beer for him, red wine for me), and we were debating the whole topic of owning versus renting a house.

Lately, I have been feeling very restricted by our mortgage, in that it ties us not only to our house (which we love), but our jobs, our city, and our current life.    I have to ask:   “what if we want to change our life, on the flip of a coin?”    How does one do that when one owns a house with a mortgage that’s not up for negotiation for another couple of years?

I wonder, is it better to rent, so that one can  handle anything that life throws their way.    A move out west to teach skiing, a career change, world travel, maybe an Ashram in India.

But seriously, how does one keep one’s life options open when one is tied to a mortgage?      Does anyone have the solution to this?

Or am I just wanderlusting again – or preparing for the on again off again wanderlust?

Am I the only one who thinks of this?

Vancouver 2011 – Whistler Ski Trip.

Possibility of anywhere.

Open to some input here people – please share.      Am I just non-committal?    or a commitment phobe?      Or maybe I just think the world is small and I am entitled to it all.

Peace out,

Susan.

TIFF – 2 weeks late

The Toronto International Film Festival begins this weekend in Toronto.    From September 6-16, Canada is bombarded with famous people.    Well, Toronto to be more specific.  No, no, I won’t be there……this year.

A few big names in town:-

Keira Knightley in Karenina

Ben Affleck directing and staring in Argo

Colin Firth in Arthur Newman (love Colin Firth!!)

Spike Lee pay tribute to Michael Jackson with Mariah, Kanye, Sheryl Crow and Cee Low

Some days in all my Wanderlust – I swear I was meant to be a movie star.     Could  be my Leo traits, but I think I could carry it off.    Maybe I should take a trip to Toronto in cognito and pretend I’m a famous Movie Director.     OK, crazy.

But speaking of Toronto – my sisters and I are heading there in three weeks for our Annual Sisters weekend.  We are staying right downtown – the purpose of this is shopping, eating and being.    We hang out, we gab, we drink we eat.    Good good times.

So anyone out there familiar with Toronto?   Are you going to TIFF?  (jealous)    Any fab places we should eat and/or shop?    Help a sister out here.   I could be famous you know!

Wanderlustingly yours,

Sue.

Wish for next life – thin legs

I decided to make Friday’s my day to whine a bit about how un-thin I am and how if only I were thin, I could wear these awesome outfits.     These are the best of the blogsphere that caught my eye:

Where can I get legs like these?

Great Saturday afternoon assemble

nothing to do with skinny legs, but this is why I love September

Ah yes…..

And that would be my must-have-right-now lustful things my friends.      Oh there’s many many more, but perhaps I’ll save that for next Friday.   Or when I dream of having thin legs and being famous again  (that’s not an or, that’s an and). 🙂

Happy Labour Day Friday,

Susan
